Dan Hershberger’s Plight Dan Hershberger’s bed is East to West And he and his wife take rest With their feet reposing in the East And their heads up in the West. Dan Hershberger’s legs are long and thin, As long and thin as he; He eats and eats all day long– Of results there’s none to see. Dan Hershberger’s legs have no fat, If I may be so bold, And when he lies in bed at night His toes are always cold. Dan Hershberger’s wife is opposite Of him in every way, And how he married a wife so short Is more than I can say. Dan Hershberger’s wife is cold at night But only in the West, And she pulls the blankets way up high When she takes her Evening Rest. Dan Hershberger’s legs are long and thin They end out in the East, And when his wife pulls up the quilt They are not covered in the least. So Dan Hershberger sleeps with his head in the East So his feet stay warm all night But Dan Hershberger’s nose suffers great woes And thus ends the tale of Dan Hershberger’s plight.
I love this time of visiting home in the states when I get to spend quality time with my parents. The more you know them, the more you will enjoy this poem about them. :)
I was told I must add that the last verse is not entirely true, that it was only a suggestion of how to solve the problem. But I have taken poetic license to include it in the poem.

I read this last night and was quite amused - I could picture it quite well. I loved the east and west! Not for the same reason, but because the bed was quite narrow, I remember seeing a husband and wife using your solution! My niece said her quilt from my Mom would be on her side of the bed, so maybe a long, long one for dear Dan and one for Verna (is she on the south side?). 😀
Oh, so good!! This made me laugh quite hard.😂
